The quandary facing the indigenous peoples of the Lower Niger manifest itself in various scourges of environmental degradation, decay and pollution of our shared living space. From the widespread reckless pollution of the fertile soils and freshwater resources of the Niger River delta to solid and liquid waste accumulation in populated urban and semi-urban centers, the populace presently lives with real danger of severe environmental poisoning from gas flaring, crude oil spills and improper disposal of human and toxic waste on daily basis. Deforestation cause rampant topsoil and gully erosion in the hinterland thereby wreaking untold havoc to transportation infrastructure while bringing ruination to agricultural lands on which the indigenous peoples depend to feed and sustain themselves.
The Environment Blog sub-menu brings special focus to bear on this existential dilemma of the target population in the ancestral terrain of the Lower Niger and elsewhere around the country.
