The indigenous peoples of the Lower Niger have been engaged in a struggle for self-determination since the right to determine our own fate by ourselves in today’s Nigeria was snatched from us on May 24, 1966 by the imposition of Unification Decree No. 34 by the military juntas that had ruled the country for most of the past half a century.
